Light Blocking Strips Designed to Fit Your Existing Shades

Sleepy Time Tracks L-Tracks help reduce light leaking around the sides of cellular, honeycomb, Roman, and many other blackout shades. Available in 60″, 72″, and 90″ lengths, they can be trimmed for a custom fit and installed with inside- or outside-mounted shades.

Choose Removable Magnetic L-Tracks when you need regular access to your window, or Permanent Adhesive L-Tracks for a slimmer, long-term installation. Both are designed to help block up to 97% of side light without replacing your existing shades.

Frequently Asked Questions

What tools do I need for installation?

None! Installation is quick and easy, most customers just use scissors or snips to trim the tracks to size. No drills, screws, or professional installers required.

Can they be trimmed to fit smaller windows?

Yes. The tracks are designed to be trimmed with scissors or snips so you can get a perfect fit for your window height.

What is the difference between the removable and permanent version?

Removable (Magnetic): Uses magnetic adhesive strips so you can pop the tracks on and off whenever needed. Perfect for tilt-in windows or removing screens. Includes our patented foam gasket that seals out slivers light from uneven walls.

Permanent (Adhesive): Designed for long-term use with strong, temperature-resistant adhesive. While not intended to be removed, if you do take them down, they typically come off with little to no wall damage. Once removed, they cannot be reapplied.

Both versions are tool-free, simple to install, and provide a secure fit for your blackout shades.

Will L-Tracks work with my type of shade?s?

Yes. Sleepy Time Tracks work with most inside- or outside-mounted shades. They’re especially effective with cellular shades. For roller shades, our Side Channels are the best option. They can also be used with flat Roman shades for improved light blocking.

Can I use them with curtains?

Not directly—but you can use them behind shades that sit under your curtains. This setup is great for blocking the glow of light that can sneak through the sides of curtains. Pairing L-Tracks with blackout shades beneath your curtains gives you a cleaner, darker result—especially in bedrooms and media rooms.

Do they come with installation instructions?

Yes. Each order includes clear, step-by-step instructions to guide you through installation.

How much light will L-Tracks block?

Sleepy Time Tracks can block up to 97% of light leaks, creating a nearly pitch-dark room. For best results, mount the tracks as close as possible to the shade material—touching is preferred to seal out even the smallest slivers of light. Perfect for nurseries, night shift workers, or anyone sensitive to light.

Can they be painted?

Yes. The tracks can be painted to match your wall or trim. Use any latex (water-based) paint for best results.

Will Sleepy Time Tracks stick to stucco or textured walls?

Sleepy Time Tracks work best on smooth, clean surfaces. If your window frame or wall is stucco or textured/uneven, the adhesive may not bond securely. In that case, we recommend attaching the tracks with small screws for a strong, long-lasting hold.

How much space do I need for L-Tracks to fit?

Removable L-Tracks require about 5/16″ of clearance per side — approximately the width of a standard pencil. Permanent L-Tracks require about 3/16″ per side — approximately the thickness of 3 pennies.
