I have blackout blinds installed in my bedroom. While the blinds block out the light; around the edges, not so much. Since I am a light sleeper (pun intended 🙂 I decided to try Sleepy Time Light Blocking Strips to find out if they would solve this problem. The difference was night and day! So, now I’m not awakened when the sun rises. Depending on your sleep preferences that could be good or bad. But for me it is wonderful. Initially I purchased only enough tracks to treat the two windows in the bedroom, because it was a tough sell to convince my wife that the ‘good’ of blocking out the light would outweigh the potential ‘bad’ of adding them in front of our window blinds. But, after I installed them, she thought that the tracks framed the blinds and made them to appear more elegant. Perhaps needless to say, I will be busy installing more Sleepy Time Tracks.

WOW! I recently moved and did not realize that there was a street light outside my bedroom window that makes you feel like you at Universal Studios City Walk. I purchased blackout shades and they worked fine. However, there was stil bright light coming from the edges. I installed these. (EASY) and now it is so dark in my room I need to turn on a light to see where I am going. I mean it is REALLLY DARK. They work and easy to install.

My partner and I splurged on Lutron Serena motorized blackout shades for our bathroom and bedroom (4 windows in total). While the shades are indeed blackout, of course we had light seeping in from the sides of the shades. I was thrilled to find these light blockers online and immediately ordered 4 sets of the removable/magnetic version. These light blockers work as advertised and do an amazing job!!! These are 100% worth every penny.
I will add nothing in our 1935 Tudor bungalow is completely plumb – this includes the frames around the windows. While we did clean the frames with rubbing alcohol before attaching the magnetic 3M adhesive strips, they did pull away from the frame in a few places, mostly the bottom 1/3. The solution was to remove the light light blockers, drill tiny pilot holes in the magnetic strip adhered to the frame and use a couple small screws on each magnetic strip (middle of the window frame and within 1 inch of the bottom) with flat heads to ensure they stay in place long term. The light blockers reattached perfectly afterwards. This was super easy to do and enables us to remove the light blockers to tilt the windows in for cleaning when we need to.

I can see where these would work well on shades that weren’t measured properly and had a lot of space on each side, but ours were measured so well there is not enough space to put one on each side. Our bedroom faces east so we get the early morning sun and the tiny gap we have with the sun shining on our face wakes us up. These are sturdy and well made. I will recommend them to other people, just did not work for us.

What they don’t tell you when you buy room, darkening shades, especially motorized shades, that light still creeps in at the sides sometimes at the top and sometimes at the bottom depending on the make.
What you need is these brilliantly Thought out solutions to block that light which are simple to install and come with a magnetic strip so that they can be removed to clean windows, etc.
They truly make a world of difference. I’ve used these on other windows in my house, and I just installed these in my two huge bedroom windows where there’s a streetlight directly outside with the side mount and bottom mount. No light penetrates the bedroom. It is black perfect for disturbing sleep
